KTD Group Holdings began at the dining table in Marcus’s family home. The first discussions centred on building a credible contracting business from an existing labour supply operation, but Marcus’s plan extended further.

He believed that a business should not depend on one source of income and that profits should be reinvested to create strength across several sectors. At the table, he drew a structure showing a connected group of businesses. It became known, affectionately, as the Christmas tree.

The thinking was simple: different businesses and markets would not always move in the same direction. Diversification, disciplined reinvestment and shared experience could therefore improve resilience across the whole.

KTD represents the early blueprint for the investment approach Marcus continues to develop today: build carefully, support capable people and think beyond the performance of a single company.
